2012 - year of significance
The time has flown so quickly that yet another year has gone by and a
new one has emerged. The year 2012 in this respect is going to be
somewhat special to the whole world as everyone will be looking at the
new year with eagerness and caution as there have been speculation to
say that the world is in its final leg and it would come to an end at
the end of December! Such theories have been consolidated offering
evidence from ‘Bible Code’, ‘Peak Oil’, Numerology and various other
prophesies.
One of the outstanding notifications is found in the so-called Long
Count b'ak'tun cycle of the Mayan Calendar which ends (on December 21 or
December 23). While it's unclear what ‘the end’ of that period meant to
the Mayas, many interpret it as THE END - perhaps meaning the end of
civilization!
December 12, 2012 is regarded as the end - date of a 5,124 year long
cycle in the Mesoamerican Long Count Calendar along with various
astronomical alignments and numerological formulae. While some suggest
that the end of the world will occur with the arrival of the ‘next solar
maximum’ or earth’s collision with a black hole, passing asteroid or a
planet called ‘Nibiru’, others regard it as just a transition moment at
which the earth and its inhabitants may undergo a positive physical or
spiritual transformation towards a beginning of a new ‘golden’ age,
perhaps with the advent of a New Messenger from the heavens!
New Year resolutions
New Year is a gracious occasion as old things and habits are cast
aside and new concepts, new habits and new ideas are put into motion. On
a commercial perspective the shopkeepers will ensure to condition the
minds of the public to cast aside old clothes and come up with new
fashions and new styles.

New Year’s Eve events are special to bid good bye to the old year and
welcome a new year.
This occasion is celebrated throughout the world with merrymaking and
having fun with dances and home gatherings where at midnight on December
31st everyone hugs and greets each other embracing the New Year.
New Year resolution is another formality where one thinks about an
individual resolution and commits oneself to a lasting personal goal. If
there is going to be any change in one’s lifestyle, for example
refraining from smoking or shedding a long held bad habit, it is
interpreted as advantageous to accomplish the individual goals and
regard it as a key to a new beginning in the New Year.
Predictions
During one’s life time forecasts, prophesies, guesses or speculation
will never end. In this respect year 2012 is already having its full
quota.
How many man-invented prophesies or forecasts have come to
realisation? May be only an insignificant number, yet human nature is
such that we all get fascinated, concerned and frightened with such
warnings.
One of the most robust predictions of recent times that did not take
place was the Y2K on the first of January 2000.
When many authors and ministries committed to warn people that the
‘end of the world was round the corner’ because of the Y2K computer
bug’, many took the warning seriously by stocking up of dry rations,
invested in gold and silver and even organizing safe houses out of city
limits.
Y2K effect was considered to be a complete over run of the old
working systems of computers where dates beyond 1999 would not have been
recognised. Consequently the effects would have been that aero planes
might have fallen out of the skies on January 1, 2000 and ships would
have hit the sea beds and households would have had complete darkness
due to electricity failures, but nothing happened as Y2K could not live
up to its predictions.
American disaster on September Eleventh (9/11) was a catastrophe that
took place without any prediction.
Only the terrorists who planned it knew exactly what they were aiming
at. Yet it was also a kind of prediction to a limited few until it
really took place.
This goes to show that whatever and how much and how many predict
things on a physical plane nothing can be of certainty until it really
takes place.
Even when it comes to Bible prophecy, it gives us no absolute or set
dates, instead there are relative timings given between certain
milestones and the End of the Age.
Volatile situation
With the volatile situation that exists today, especially in the
Middle East and African region, where masses are fighting against
tyranny, dictatorship and despotism and apparent dangerous political
games are being played by powerful world leaders, mankind is pushed
towards self destruction whereby not only the entire planet but man
himself is becoming responsible in destroying everything in this world
leaving no room for the nature to take part!
As mortals are we are not given any choice in the matter? Nature has
taken care of it all and the humanity will have to just prod along while
the professionals, intellectuals and politicians who ‘run the world will
have to open their eyes and minds wide to keep their balance in the
right order to blend with the changes that are going to take place in
the future. So far we have seen so many tyrants in the world perishing
recently and unrest, bloodshed and killings becoming a universal
familiar scene.
Will 2012 make a drastic change to the whole world or make no
difference similar to that of the previously speculated dates? Will the
ever growing conflict between Israel and Iran strike the first match
stick to ignite fire while Americans with their Western allies getting
involved simultaneously with Syria prompting Russia and China to come
forward to make the prophesies work during 2012? We simply have to wait
and see whether it is going to be a case of ‘watched pot never boils' or
‘barking dogs never bite’.
