Navin Samarasinghe and Sharya Guruge clinched the men's and women's
open titles in the 31st National Squash championship worked off from
December 19 to 22 at the Sri Lanka Air Force Squash complex Ratmalana.
Navin beat Saman Tillekeratna 3-2 in the men's final while Sharya
Guruge beat Nadindhi Udangawa in the same fashion in the women's final.
Navin trounced Ravindu Laksiri 3-1 in the first men's semi-final
while Saman qualified for the final by beating Dilshan Gunawardane 3-0
in the other semi-final.
Sharya beat Mihiliya Methsarani 3-1 while Nadindhi booked her place
in the final by defeating Dulaksh Elikawela 3-1 in the women's
semifinals.
In the Over 35 age category event, Saman Tillekeratne won the title
by beating C. H. Thalagala 3-0 in the final. M. Rizvan emerged champion
in the Over 45 category while H. Hazmi clinched the Over 50 age category
championship.
Sri Lanka Squash Federation conducted the championship in which most
of the elite players took part. Altogether 110 players participated in
the 31st Squash Nationals.
Sports Ministry Secretary Udaya Seneviratne was the chief guest at
the award ceremony and distributed the awards.
