The government will provide 15,000 job opportunities for graduates in
the government sector in 2012 as it is necessary to have a large number
of government sector employees for a country with a welfare economy,
said Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities
Minister Wimal Weerawansa.
"When President Mahinda Rajapaksa came to power, there were 0.8
million government sector employees in the country. The previous
governments reduced the number of government sector employees. But the
President increased the number up to 1.2 million", the minister said.
He said according to a research done by an international organization
to recognize countries having welfare programmes, Sri Lanka has received
the eighth place among welfare states.
It is hardly to find States with facilities, such as, free education,
free health service in the world. Sri Lanka provides these free
services.
The government also provides other subsidies, such as, fertilizer
subsidy. Other welfare programmes also continue in the country, minister
Weerawansa said. |
