Motor racing in the hill capital will come to an end for the year
2011 when the 4x4 event organised by the Army Rifle Corps in association
with the Kandy off Road Adventure Club is worked off at Pallekelle today
December, Friday (23) at 9 am.
This is the second time this event is being worked off at this venue
and all proceeds will go to the welfare unit of the Army.
According to Rohan Dammapala of Kandy off Road Adventure Club over 30
competitors have entered this competition which will be for four-wheel
drive vehicles. Three events for standard, extreme and ladies will be
worked off. This will be a dual track and it is full of obstacles and
the competitors will find the track challenging. The Army has upgraded
this track from what it was last year, to make it more interesting for
competitors and spectators alike.
The rains experienced up in the hills these days has softened the
track and there will be more slush and mud.
Then there is the mound the waterways and the pit with boulders in
the path. A crane and an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) will be in readiness
to monitor and recover the vehicles if they find it difficult to
extricate from the morass.
The distribution of Awards will take place after the completion of
events with the participation of the governor of the Central Province,
Tikiri Kobbekaduwa. |
