Lankan golfers take Plate Championship

Sri Lanka's Amateur golf champion for 2011 N Thangaraja of Royal
Colombo Golf Club put up a polished display at the 10th SAARC Golf
Championship worked off in Jaipur India recently.
India won the championship and Sri Lanka who are the defending
champions won the Plate Championship with Nepal as runner-up. N
Thangaraja made a fine score of four under par 66 which was the best
score in the championship. This fine score by Thangaraja proved the
point that he is in fine fettle at the moment and could be called as the
best amateur golfer at present in the country. According the Secretary
of the Sri Lanka Golf Union, Ana Punchihewa this SAARC Golf Championship
was worked off at the Rambagh golf course in Jaipur and india won the
championship by defeating Bangladesh narrowly in the finals. In the
qualifying rounds India edged out Sri Lankan by one shot to move into
the finals. India had a two round total of 288 and Sri Lanka though
making a determined bid made 289 and was one stroke behind.
In the qualifying round too Thangaraja of Sri Lanka excelled when he
made a one under par 139 over the two rounds. He was just one point
behind the Best Aggregate in the two rounds. |
