Land deeds for Rambaken Oya colonists

The inaugural ceremony to provide deeds for the first colonists of
the Rambaken Oya Irrigation Project Mahaoya, Ampara was held under the
patronage of Irrigation and Water Resources Management Minister Nimal
Siripala de Silva recently.
Seventy persons were provided deeds. About 45 persons were provided
home garden deeds and 25 were provided with irrigable land deeds.
The people who provided their lands for the Rabmaken Oya project were
also given deeds. About 2,300 landless families are to be resettled
under the Rambakan Oya Irrigation Project. The project is implemented as
a poverty alleviation project. Around 24, 000 families will be provided
drinking water facilities under this. Infrastructure facilities, such
as, roads, hospitals and schools will be developed.
The government funds Rs 2,500 million for the project. It will cost
Rs 2,000 million for the development of infrastructure facilities. Rs
500 million will be spent to develop infrastructure facilities.
The Rambaken Oya Irrigation and Water Supply project is one of
several major agricultural and rural development projects that are
nearing completion under the 'Mahinda Chintana' policy. |
