These included 26 metric tons of potatoes, 70 sacks of sprats each
weighing 50 kilos and 50 metric tons of dhal.
The raid follows a directive by Cooperatives and Internal Trade
Minister Jhonston Fernando for measures to protect consumers against
errant traders during the festive season.
The centre was a major wholesale establishment dealing in consumer
goods where the unspoilt were being separated from the spoiled for
release to the market at the time of the raid.
Minister Fernando has instructed his officials to take firm action
against traders who try to fleece the public by selling goods at
inflated prices and food items that are unfit for consumption during the
festive season.
Officers of the CAA Raids Unit made their move acting on a tip - off. |
