Mini rugby carnival, a tremendous success

The Junior Under 9, 10, 11 & 12 (7 A-side Tag rugby) and under 14 &
16 tackle rugby carnival was a great success which was staged at
Havelock Park on a grand scale on November 7 witnessed by a large
gathering of parents and rugby fans.
According to Shamrath Fernando Chairman Rugby Development Western
Province (SLRFU), this Rugby Development was re-started after a lapse of
two years and the Western Province Rugby Football Union WPRFU Employed
three district development officers, headed by Shamrath Fernando under
the Instructions of Gr. Capt. Nalin de Silva, Chairman, Rugby
Development SLRFU and Rizly Illyas President, WPRFU.
After a very impressive speech by Gr. Capt. Nalin De Silva
Certificates and rugby balls were awarded to all participating teams.
400 participants from 40 teams under the category of age under 9, 10,
11 & 12 Tag & Tackling rugby while 500 participants from 50 teams under
the age category of under 14 & 16 tackling rugby took part.
Shamrath further said that this Mini Rugby carnival was held to see
the talent and progress of the development now and in the future. |
