Eastern Province athletes to be felicitated

A ceremony has been organized to felicitate emerging athletes of the Eastern Province. And it will be held in Trincomalee on December 3, 2011.

According to the report on this function, one of the features of this ceremony is awarding Colours to those Eastern Provincial athletes who bagged 19 medals at this year's version of the Annual National Sports Festival.

Athletes participating in that festival won two gold medals six silver medals and eleven bronze medals, and the athletes behind these medals will be awarded cash prizes as well as colours at the ceremony, added the report.

Accordingly, those who won gold medals are to be given a cash prize of Rs 25,000 each.

Meanwhile, a cash prize of Rs 15,000 will be offered to each of the athletes who won silver medals and a cash prize of Rs 10,000 will be offered to bronze medal winners, the report said.

The event is being organized by the Eastern Provincial Ministry of Sports and the Provincial Department of Sports.
