Unidentified body found

An unidentified body of a person who seemed to be a victim of a hit and run vehicle was found on the Ratnapura - Embilipitiya road at Godakawela by the Godakawela police on Tuesday night. The body is lying at the Ratnapura hospital morgue awaiting the autopsy. Investigations are continuing.


Robber suspects held

Two suspects wanted in connection with a spate of robberies in Polonnaruwa, Mahawela, Minneriya, Dambulla, Bakamuna and Aralaganwila areas were apprehended by officers of the Polonnaruwa police on Wednesday. Police also seized a lorry used by the suspects to transport looted goods.


Exhibition of digital copies of Tagore

The Indian Cultural Centre, Colombo is organizing an exhibition of photographs of his travels to South East Asia, China and Sri Lanka titled Pilgrimages to the East and an exhibition of Digital Copies of Tagore Paintings titled Artist Rabindranath Tagore to commemorate the 150th birth anniversary of Nobel Laureate poet Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore

Cultural Affairs and Arts Minister T B Ekanayake will inaugurate the exhibition in the presence of Indian High Commissioner Ashok K Kantha today at 6 pm at J D A Perera Gallery, 46, Horton Place, Colombo 7 . I t will be open for public viewing from 11 am to 7 pm from December 3 to 8.


Religious programme

A one-day religious programme organized by the Council of Shazuliyyah Khulafa and Muqaddams will be held on December 4 at 10 am at the Ummu Zavaya Masjid, Colombo 12. It will be held under the patronage of Council Chairman and Kaleefathush Shazuli Moulavi J Abdul Hameed.


Seminar on Islam

A seminar on Islam organized by the Sri Lanka Islamic Society (SLIS) for GCE (O-L) Examination 2011 Sinhala medium students will be held on December 4 at 9 am at the Fathima Welfare Centre Auditorium, 191/50, Mangala Uyana, Thimbirigasyaya, Colombo 5.

The seminar will be conducted by Fathima Girls School Principal Ashroff Yoosuf. A F Mahamed will be the guest speaker.

Carol service

The annual Carol service of the Colombo YMCA will be held on December 3 at 5.30 pm at the Colombo YMCA Gymnasium, 39, Bristol Street, Fort, Colombo 1. Choirs from leading schools and institutions will participate.


Book launch

The launching of the book titled Sivaththamil Selvi Thangammah Appakuttys Vaalviyal Panikal will take place tomorrow from 4.30 pm at Bambalapitiya Saraswathy Hall, Colombo 4 .

Kambavaruthy E. Jeyaraj of Kamban Kalagam will preside. D Eeswaran will be the chief guest while former Hindu Cultural Minister P.P. Devaraj and Director of Hindu Religious and Cultural Affairs Shanthi Navukkarasan will be the special guests.

The Colombo Race Course Morning Walkers has arranged an X'mas season get-together today at 7.30 pm at the Light House Galley on Chaithya Road, Galle Face (opposite the Light House) managed by the Sri Lanka Navy.
