BASL 'Sports Gala 2011' a huge success

The "Sports Gala 2011" organised by the Sports Committee of the Bar
Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) was held at the St. Joseph's College
Ground recently.
The Chief Guest was Supreme Court Judge, Justice R K Suresh Chandra
and the Guest of Honour was Solicitor General Palitha Fernando, PC. The
BASL organized this annual event to promote sports like cricket,
foot-ball, tennis, badminton, carrom and athletics amongst lawyers, who
seldom find the time to devote to sports, BASL Sports Committee Chairman
Sanjaya Gamage assited by Chamin Madurasighe said. Justice Suresh
Chandra, after distributing trophies to the winners, thanked the
organizers of the BASL 'Sports Gala 2009' for the great effort taken to
hold a colourful sports event of the nature in spite of the rain.
This is a sports gala organized to improve sport skills and
leadership qualities among the legal practitioners.
"I wish to thank the organizers for their untiring and dedicated
efforts to make this annual event a success, Justice Suresh Chandra
added.
Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) President, President's Counsel
Shibly Aziz, in a message to the 'Sports Gala 2009' stated that this
event has been given a boost under the Chairmanship of Sanjaya Gamage
who with his team of loyal supporters have put their heart and soul into
organizing very colourful and an eventful day of sports activities.
The BASL Secretary Mahinda B K Lokuge said that it is a special and
significant social event of the BASL calender.
He highly appreciated the participation of the BASL members of all
branches of the country. This event a colourful one with a sporting
spirit and gesture as a family unit.
Chairman of the Organizing Committee Sanjaya Gamage thanked all the
members of the BASL for the immense contribution and support extended to
him in organizing this "Sport Gala 2011" event. The Sports Gala event is
one of the most important activities in the Bar Association of Sri Lanka
activity Calender that unite, the members of our legal fraternity spread
across 78 branches around the country, with the spirit of sportsmanship,
Sanjaya Gamage said.
He also added that it was also an event which kindles team spirit and
bring back memories of our glorious youth. |
