Navy intercepts drug traffickers west of Iranative Island



Heroin packets seized from traffickers

The fast attack craft P 480 attached to the Northern Naval Command arrested eight persons along with 02 kilograms of heroin and 02 vessels in the seas west of Iranative Island on November 28.

The arrest was made close to midnight with the assistance of Inshore Patrol Craft P 157.

Fast Attack Craft P 480 had detected a suspicious movement of a fiber glass dingy in the seas west of Iranative Island sailing alongside an Indian trawler, which had illegally entered Sri Lankan waters.

It intercepted the suspected boats with the assistance of IPC P 157 and subsequently recovered 04 parcels containing heroin, each weighing approximately 500 grams. They arrested three Sri Lankans onboard the FGD and five Indian nationals onboard the trawler, who were involved in the smuggling racket.

The suspects with the seized heroin were handed over to the Kankasanthurei Police for further investigations.
