Opposition Leader allowed to make amended statement

Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody announced yesterday in Parliament that Opposition Leader Ranil Wickramasinghe would be allowed to make an amended version of his statement today, which was not allowed on Tuesday.

Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody announced that the Speaker decided, after considering the submissions by government members and Opposition on Tuesday, the Opposition Leader would be allowed to make the special statement under 23(2) after amending it without violating the standing orders.

Irrigation and Water Resources Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva on Tuesday stated that the content of the Opposition Leader's statement was subjudice as it involved with a matter before a Court of Law.

The Deputy Speaker announced, the Speaker decided the Opposition Leader would make his amended statement on Thursday.

He also said the Speaker directed the government side to answer the statement.
