Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody said in Parliament yesterday that
he would inquire into the matter of Opposition Leader Ranil
Wickremesinghe removing his tie inside the Chamber on Tuesday when the
latter was disallowed from making a statement in the House.
The Deputy Speaker further said that he would see whether Opposition
Leader Wickremesinghe had acted in violation of Standing Orders by his
action.
The Opposition Leader removed his tie as he walked out of the chamber
on Tuesday after the Speaker said he could not make a special statement
in the house on a matter, which government members said, is before
courts. However, he will be allowed to make an amended statement to the
House today.
Meanwhile, Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common
Amenities Minister Wimal Weerawansa called for the suspension of
Opposition Leader Ranil Wickrekesinghe from Parliament for removing his
tie inside the chamber. |
