World AIDS Day national ceremony today

Today is World AIDS Day. The national ceremony to mark this day will be held at New Bazaar Maternity Home, Colombo under the patronage of Health Minister Maithripala Sirisena, a Health Ministry spokesman said. Colombo Mayor A.J. Muzammil will also participate in this ceremony followed by the National AIDS Walk, he said.

This is the first World AIDS Day national ceremony to be attended by the public.

All ceremonies were earlier held in five star hotels and institutions with the participation of invitees who are aware of this issue.

Minister Sirisena has requested health officials to conduct public awareness programmes in public places outside Colombo city.
