Ten nabbed with illicit brew

Fines totalling Rs 65,500 were imposed by Horana Magistrate Mahinda Ranasinghe on ten people arrested with 28 drams of illicit liquor.

One suspect was fined Rs 10,000 and sentenced to three months rigorous imprisonment suspended for five years and the other nine were fined Rs 5,000 each. In addition, a suspect arrested for selling two drams of government arrack, was fined Rs 4,000 by the Horana Magistrate. Ingiriya police had carried out these raids.

Traffic rules violated

A suspect produced before Horana Magistrate Mahinda Ranasingha for violating traffic rules was fined Rs 8,000.

The suspect was arrested by the Ingiriya Police Traffic Division for riding a motorbicycle without a helmet, driving licence, insurance or any other required documents. Another suspect who had ridden his motorbicycle without a driving licence or insurance was arrested by the Ingiriya police and was fined Rs 6,000 by the Magistrate.

The Ingiriya police arrested another person for driving without insurance who was fined Rs 5,000 by the Horana Magistrate.
