'Backlog of mail cleared'

The backlog of mail heaped up owing to the postal strike has been cleared and delivered to the respective destinations, Postal Services Minister Jeewan Kumaratunga said in Parliament yesterday.

Soon after the strike ended, the trade unions had agreed to do their best to clear the back log of letters heaped at the Central Mail Exchange.

It took only two days to clear the backlog, the minister said. The minister was responding to a question raised by UNP MP Buddhika Pathirana.
