India-based Chairman of Lanka IOC PLC Makrand Nene was in Colombo on
a working visit recently during which time he had extensive discussions
with Petroleum Industries Minister Susil Premajayantha, Petroleum
Industries Ministry Secretary Sandya Wijebandara and the High
Commissioner of India in Sri Lanka Ashok K. Kantha.
Among the wide ranging topics discussed by the Minister and the Lanka
IOC Chairman were Lanka IOC’s marketing network plans for Sri Lanka, its
future investments in China Bay, and, the impact of international oil
prices on the marketing of petroleum products in Sri Lanka. Based in
Mumbai from where he overlooks IOC’s operations in Sri Lanka, this is
Nene’s first visit to Colombo since he took over the Chairmanship of
Lanka IOC PLC last month (October 2011).
A supply chain expert, Nene spearheaded the logistics of Indian Oil
during the transition to deregulation period and successfully harnessed
IT interventions such as Transportation Scheduler, Daily Activity
Management Systems etc. in Indian Oil’s logistics value chain. He is
very well conversant with the planning and implementing marketing
initiatives including successful finalization of MoUs with Stand Alone
Refiners. He has wide ranging experience in all aspects of the
activities in the marketing division, having worked in LPG (operation
and sales), general operations, supply and distribution and heading
logistics, shipping and commercial functions.
Nene has 33 years of experience covering all areas in the petroleum
industry. His training in the Advanced Management Programme from the
Management Development Institute, Guragaon and the Faculty Development
Programme through Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, has significantly enhanced
his expertise to achieve the goals of the Company.
