Atawaka in Kandy

Alliance française de Kandy is not only a centre for teaching of French language. This institution is also deeply committed to organize cultural events, giving priority to young artists who, most of the time, don't have the opportunity to display their talents and to get access to the public.

It was the case recently with the annual Art Week that included a two-day workshop for 30 students. It is the case with ATAWAKA - an Exhibition of photographs proposed by the Second year Undergraduates (special degree course) of the drama and theatre and image arts Unit of the University of Kelaniya.

In November 2002, Alliance française de Kandy started this annual program on Photography, Kandy Alliance Photo, which intends to be an echo of the events occurring at the same period of the year in Paris, Paris Photo. Till now 14 photographers have been selected and have displayed their works in this program: 4 French, 1 American and 9 Sri Lankan.

Kandy Alliance Photo 2011 welcomes eight talented artists who will exhibit their works from November 25 to December 5. The exhibition will be declared open by Prof. Ashley Halpé.
