Benedictines in command

St Benedict's College were in a strong position at the end of the first day's play in their inter-school Under-19 cricket match against Wesley College which began at Kotahena yesterday.

The Bens batting first piled up 258 for 9 wickets before declaring with Arjuna Perera top scoring with 78. In reply Wesley were reeling at 67 for 5 wickets with paceman Jason Perera claiming 3 wicket for 17.

St Bendict's: 258 for 9 wickets decl (Jason Perera 29, Heshan Yasanthika 46, Arjuna Perera 78, Sameera Sandamal 30, Sachin Peiris 23, S M Jayawardena 2 for 45, A T Kariyawasam 3 for 44).

Wesley: 67 for 5 wickets (A D Fonseka 28 n.o, A T Kariyawasam 23, Jason Perera 3 for 17).
