Inaugural Walawe Supercross tomorrow
Chinthana WASALA
The brand new track at Udawalawe, laid by Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club
in association with the Army Motor Sports Committee of Sri Lanka
Electrical and Mechanical Engineers of Sri Lanka Army will be covered in
dust, the roaring sound of engines heard, while a full day of action and
a massive crowd of over 75,000 is expected to witness the inaugural
Walawe Supercross tomorrow.
The superb 1.5 kilometre long track which is located at the 17
kilometre post on the Udawalawe - Tanamalwila road and outside the Army
Camp, is in close proximity to the entrance of the famous National
Wildlife Park.
This fact will also help this event to be a crowed puller, because
the location is one of the best tourist attractions in the country.
Since most of Sri Lanka’s motor racing tracks are located inside the
Army and Air Force camps and this Walawe track is outside the Army camp,
it will be available for the drivers and riders to practice and test
their machines for a nominal fee, without restrictions.
The Sri Lanka Motor Cycles (SLMCC) is all set to organize this mega
racing event, with a vast amount of experience in motor racing, having
conducted the Nuwara Eliya Road Races, Katukurunda, Ratmalana, Mirigama,
Kurunegala, Galle, Colombo and Kandy night races.
The Army Motor Sports Committee, the Sri Lanka Army Electrical and
Mechanical Engineers Regiment is also giving their best to make this
inaugural event a success.
A model aircraft display and hot air balloons will add more colour to
this racing extravaganza, giving a brand new experience to racing
enthusiasts. Prize money will be given away to the winners according to
a decision taken by the organizers to encourage the competitors. |
