Buddhist panel discussion

The Buddhist panel discussion of the Colombo YMBA 'Value of Rituals in Buddhism' will be held tomorrow at 10 am at its Borella building. The panelists are Prof J B Dissanayake, former Ambassador to Thailand and Deshabandu Olcott Gunaskera, President, Dhamma Vijaya Foundation with Rajah Kuruppu as the moderator.


Annual session and AGM

The Society of Structural Engineers, Sri Lanka will hold their Annual Session and Annual General Meeting (AGM) on November 22 at Hilton Hotel, Colombo.

The annual session will be held from 8 am to 2 pm while the AGM will be held from 2.30 pm to 4.30 pm.


Centenary celebration

The centenary celebration of Omanthai Central College will be held tomorrow. Government Agent, Vavuniya P S M Charles will be the chief guest. A centenary magazine will be launched at the celebration. A playground for the school will be opened. The students will display kavadi dance and two dramas.


Sa concert

Visharada Victor Ratnayaka's Sa concert will be held at the BMICH tomorrow at 6.30 pm. Music will be by Jayantha Ratnayake.


Annual gathering

The Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association Sri Lanka Majlis Khuddamul Ahmadiyya will hold its annual gathering (Ijtima) at 9 am at Ahmadiyya Jubilee Hall, Periyamulla, Negombo. It will be held tomorrow under its President Iman Fazal. The programme starts with Thahajjud Prayer followed by flaghoisting.

Sri Lanka Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama' at National President A H Nasir Ahmad will be the chief guest.

The event includes academic competitions. Ahmadi students who obtained best results in the O/L and A/L examinations will receive Prizes and certificates.


Chemex 2

The Institute of Chemistry Ceylon will hold the chemistry exhibition Chemex-2 to commemorate the International Year of Chemistry from November 24-26 at its headquarters at Adamantane House, 341/22, Kotte Road, Welikada, Rajagiriya.

The exhibition which will display information on food, nutrition, industry, toxicology, health,pharmaceuticals, complementary medicine therapy, environment, research etc will also include practical demonstrations and training seminars for advanced level students together with Chemistry magic shows.

The exhibition will also have informatory stalls from some universities and the Government Analyst's Department.


Reach out tomorrow

A CSR programme organized by the Practising Accountants Chartered Students' Society (PACSS) in collaboration with the Young Chartered Accountants Forum (YCAF) will be held at Sujatha Elders' Home, Wakada, Panadura tomorrow.

The society plans to spend the day with the elders and donate essential items.


Community clinic

A free community clinic for villagers of Kantale Alla Colony, Sri Mangalapola, Somapura and Neelapola organized by the Old Anandians' Buddhist Association's External Projects Unit will be held tomorrow at the Kantale Mahaweligama Vidyalaya.

A group of old Anandian medical consultants will treat patients for general, dental and eye ailments free of charge. The Alla Sub Unit of the Sri Lanka Army General Services Corps will provide services on the advice of SLA G.S. Corps Commandant and under the supervision of 1 SLA G.S.C. Regiment Commander.

A charity service of donating textiles for Sunday school uniforms and school equipment to Sunday school students of T/Neelapola Raja Maha Viharaya will also be held. Furniture will be donated for the Sunday school while a financial contribution to repair the Sanghavasaya of Neelapola Viharaya will also be made.

The Division Commandant of the SLA 22 Brigade and the Brigade Commandant of the SLA 222 Brigade will participate as the chief guests.


Lecture

A lecture on 'A National Development Strategy for Sri Lanka?' by Assistant Secretary-General for Economic Development at the United Nations, Dr Jomo Kwame Sundaram will be held on November 21 at 5 pm at the Gamini Dissanayake Auditorium, 96, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, Colombo 7.

It is organized by the Royal Asiatic Society of Sri Lanka.


Religious, cultural programmes

A series of religious and cultural programmes jointly organised by the Ports and Highways Ministry and the Road Development Authority (RDA) to mark the first anniversary of the President's second term of office and the ceremonial opening of the Southern Expressway will be held at the inter-change points along the Expressway from November 18 to 27.

All night pirith ceremonies held at the inter-change points at Kottawa, Kahathuduwa, Gelanigama, Dodangoda, Welipanna, Kurundugahahetekma, Baddegama and Pinnaduwa will conclude with a sanghika dana today. Other highlights will include sports events, musical shows, police band displays and fireworks displays held today and tomorrow, said a press release by the RDA.


Seminar on budget

A seminar on Budget 2012 organized by the Inland Revenue Department will be held on November 21 at 5.30 pm at the Galadari Hotel. Finance Ministry Secretary Dr P B Jayasundera will deliver the keynote address.
