Developing physical, human resources vital -Wimal

Developing physical resources is not sufficient to achieve the
country's development goals. Therefore, the government has taken
measures to develop both human and physical resources by implementing
programmes to develop Sri Lanka's education sector, said Construction,
Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister Wimal
Weerawansa.
He was addressing the first Colours Night of Dharmapala Vidyalaya
Kottawa recently.
"A formal education system greatly supports the development of human
resources. Countries which have achieved their development goals have
good human resources and they have achieved development goals through a
formal education system," he added.
The minister said that schools are not only a training centre for
examinations and they should set a target for the children. The schools
should pay attention to develop children's special skills to develop
their personalities.
"There are only a few countries which offer free education. As a
developing nation, we have free education and we should be proud of
that", the minister said. "We all have a responsibility to contribute
towards the country's development and this should receive our priority
because we have been educated under the free education system. We have
defeated terrorism successfully and now there is another challenge to
build a generation to contribute to the country's development," the
minister further said.
The Colours Night was held at the main hall of the Dharmapala
Vidyalaya, Kottawa. Students as well as several teachers who have
contributed towards education and sports received colours. |
