Encouraging talks between Mowlana, infant's parents

A Sri Lankan team led by Western Province Governor Alavi Mowlana left for Saudi Arabia on Wednesday to seek clemency for Sri Lankan housemaid Rizana Nafeek who has spent the last six years in death row in Saudi Arabia.

The Governor held encouraging discussions on Thursday with the parents and relatives of the infant who is alleged to have died under Nafeek's care.

A press release by the secretariat of the Western Province Governor said the Governor who telephoned President Mahinda Rajapaksa from Saudi Arabia and offered him birthday greetings yesterday, has said there is some progress in their untiring efforts and they hoped that they could obtain Rizana's release before long.
