President Mahinda Rajapaksa committed him self supporting the effort
of converting the country into a centre where rights of children are
protected and child abuse is prevented by placing his signature on a
pledge to this effect at Temple Trees yesterday.
A countrywide programme to obtain 200,000 signatures for the pledge
to save children from abuse was launched in all districts yesterday.
This programme is organized by the National Child Protection Authority (NCPA)
with the coordination of the Child Development and Women's Affairs
Ministry.
Deputy Minister M L A M Hisbullah said this programme will help
arouse a sense of responsibility while making people aware of child
