Two held with heroin
Galewela Police acting on a tip off arrested a suspect in possession
of 80 milligrams of heroin in the Galewela town on Tuesday evening.
Following investigations, Police arrested another suspect in possession
of 90 milligrams of heroin while he was riding a motorcycle. Both
suspects were produced before the Dambulla Magistrate on Wednesday and
fined Rs 30,000 each. Investigations are continuing.
Language training
A programme to provide Sinhala and Tamil Language proficiency to all
Sri Lankans free of charge will be launched by the National Languages
and Social Integration Ministry on November 19 at 4 pm as part of
ceremonies organized by the ministry to mark the first anniversary of
President Mahinda Rajapaksa's second term of office.
Hindu religious pooja for President
A special Hindu religious programme will be conducted at the
Mavittapurm Murugan temple in Jaffna on November 17 and 19 to mark the
66th birthday of President Mahinda Rajapaksa and one year completion of
the President's second term in office organized by Bhrmasri Ramachandra
Kurukkal BabuSharma, Secretary, International Hindu Federation and
coordinator to the President on Hindu Religious Affairs
Public talk
Prof. Rajah de Alwis will deliver a public talk in English on
'Further Light on Vipassana as taught by Goenkaji at the meeting of the
Servants of the Buddha Society on Saturday, November 19 at 4.30 p.m. at
Maithree Hall, Lauries Road, Bambalapitiya.
Ananda Colors Nite 2011
The sports council of Ananda College, together with the Prefects
Guild have organised. "Colors Nite 2011" in recognition of the talents
of past sportsmen and also to inspire sportsmen of tomorrow.
The Colors Nite will be held on December 7 at the Kularatne Hall with
a gathering of more than 1,000 invitees.
Entertainment items combining innovation and exquisite talent will be
featured.
Relics of Don Bosco arrive Saturday
The Sacred Relics of St John Bosco popularized as Don Bosco will
arrive in Sri Lanka for its islandwide journey on November 19. The
relics will arrive at the Bandaranaike International Airport at 7 pm
after visiting 130 countries to mark the 150th anniversary of Celestine
congregation.
The name Don Bosco is popular among Sri Lanka's youths of all
religions, particularly among the less fortunate segments of society on
who follow courses in the apprenticeship Institutions under this name.
SJC OBU family mass
The monthly family mass organized by the Group of 95 of St Joseph's
College Old Boys Union will be held on November 20 8.15 am followed by
fellowship and breakfast. All old Joes and their families are invited to
participate in this event.
Prayer service
The Colombo Chetty Community will meet at Our Lady of Sorrows, New
Chetty Street, Colombo 13 to pray for their dead at 6 p.m. on November
19. All members of the community friends and relatives are invited.
