It aims on consolidating Sri Lanka's apparel industry position in the
South Asian region and the global vision on the sustainable fashion
manufacturing.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Sri Lanka Design Festival
2011, Sri Lanka Design Festival Founder and Academy of Design (AOD),
Managing Director Linda Speldewinde said, this is the first design
festival held in a different context in Sri Lanka where the Northern and
the Eastern parts of the country have opened up and these areas needs to
be engaged with the country's agenda.
This event will showcase the country's progress to a large number of
international audiences and draw the world's attention to the local
apparel industry's ethical production methods and the design industry's
sustainable practices. This year the Design Festival will be a better
platform for the many artisans in the North and East areas to showcase
their products.
The event consists of craft exhibition, pop-up store, design
exhibition, advertising exhibition, apparel industry and craft fashion
shows, young talent fashion show, student and professional seminars and
South Asian apparel leadership forum. The Design festival will conclude
on November 20. |
