Chile police arrest 44 student protesters

CHILE: Chilean police cleared Santiago’s city hall of student protesters early Monday and arrested 44 of the members who tried to occupy the building, officials said. Carabinero special forces, a paramilitary police force, moved in minutes after a group of 50 people, mostly secondary school students, entered the building on the city’s Plaza de Armas.

Santiago’s Police said 44 people were arrested in the operation and lawful action will be taken against them. AFP
