Prime Minister D M Jayaratne yesterday participated in a religious programme at Visumpaya which is being held every Full Moon day to mark 2600th Sri Sambuddhatwa Jayanthiya. This programme includes Buddhist sermons, discussions and meditation programmes. Here the Prime Minister paying homage to the Buddha statue before the commencement of the programme.

Two Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) ships, Uraga MST 463 and Tsushiwa MSO 302 arrived at the Colombo Port on a goodwill visit on Tuesday. They are returning from a joint naval exercise in the Persian Gulf. The ships and their crew were welcomed by the Navy. Uraga MST 463 is a minesweeper with a crew of 15 officers and 106 sailors. The ship is 141 meters in length and has a displacement of 5,650 tons. Tsushima MSO 302 is a minesweeper with a length of 67 meters and a displacement of 1000 tons. Its crew comprises six officers and 45 sailors.
