Diabetes awareness walk, seminar

A Diabetes awareness walk and a public seminar has been organized by
the Non Communicable Disease(NCD) Unit of the Health Ministry, Sri Lanka
Medical Association (NCD Sub-committee, Diabetes Prevention Task Force
and Nirogi Lanka Project) and Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo
in collaboration with many other institutions to commemorate the World
Diabetes Day 2011 which falls on November 14, said Nirogi Lanka Project
Chairperson Prof. Chandrika Wijeyaratne at a press conference held at
the Information Department.
World Diabetes Day(WDD) is celebrated every year on November 14. This
year the theme of the WDD is "Act on Diabetes Now".
A Diabetes Awareness Walk will begin at 7am on November 13 from
Colombo Town Hall and proceed to the BMICH. The public seminar will be
held at Mihilaka Medura, BMICH on November 13 from 8.50 am, she said.
The Chairperson also said that Diabetes Awareness Walks and many
other awareness programmes will also be held on November 13 in many
hospitals like the NHSL, DSHW, LRH, Eye Hospital, Colombo South Teaching
Hospital, Ragama Rehabilitation Hospital, Kandy, Galle, Kegalle,
Dambadeniya, Samanthurai, Mahiyanganaya, Panadura, Nuwara Eliya, Gampaha,
Batticaloa, Jaffna, Kalmunai-South, Welimada, Pimbura, Anuradhapura,
Hiribathgoda, Hambantota and Piliyandala, Nawalapitiya, Matara, Badulla,
Poind Pedro, Mawanella and Monaragala with the participation of
political leadership, Health Ministry sector, Professional Medical
bodies, Schools, Universities, Tharunyata Hetak, Media, Sports, Girl
guides, Red Cross, WHO, UNICEF, ILO, Corporate sector and food producers
association. |
