Construction of four new bridges on the Peradeniya-Badulla-Chankalady
(A5) Road and one bridge and causeway on the Batticaloa-Trincomalee
(A15) road will commence on November 15. The five bridges will be
constructed at a cost of Rs.1930 million granted by the Japanese
government.
Four bridges, Mahaoya, Mundeni, Thulawadi and Chankalady on the A5
road and the Panichankerny bridge and the causeway on the A15 will be
reconstructed.
Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa, Ports and Highways
Deputy Minister Nirmala Kothalawela and Japanese Ambassador in Sri Lanka
Nobuhito Hobo will attend the commencement.
The A5 is a primary road linking the Central and Uva Provinces to the
Eastern Province, while the A15 interconnects the three districts of the
Eastern Province - Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara.
The existing bridges constructed about 60 years ago are in a
dilapidated state due to terrorist attacks. |
