Ensuring drinking water for all

The Water Supply and Drainage Ministry has taken action to ensure
drinking water for all, Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh
Gunawardena said.
He was addressing the media after signing a Memorandum of
Understanding (MoU) to construct the Kalutara Integrated Water Supply
Project with the Ion Exchange India Ltd at the Ministry at
Baththaramulla on Wednesday.
The Indian Exim Bank will fund for the project. Estimated cost of the
project is Rs 12,000 million. Around 575,000 individuals will benefit
from the project. It will implement covering Matugama, Agalawatta,
Kethhene, Kalutara South, Payagala, Maggona, Dodangoda, Morontuduwa,
Nagoda, Beruwala, Aluthgama, Darga town and Bentota. The ministry is
facing challenges when it is delivering water throughout the country due
to its demand. The Ministry and the National Water Supply and Drainage
Board have taken action to provide water for rural areas. |
