JVP now a failed Left party - Wimal

'Due to abandoning their political role and national duty the JVP has become another failed left political party. At present the JVP is also facing the same fate which other left political parties had faced during the earlier days,' National Freedom Front leader and Construction, Engineering Services, Housing and Common Amenities Minister, Wimal Weerawansa said.

He was delivering the special lecture 'Wama Nodanna Wame Aula' at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute on Tuesday.

The lecture was organized by the National Freedom Front. Further he said, the whole world is heading towards a dangerous future through influence of imperialism. Unbridled imperialism has launched its invasions to capture any national state without any shame.

'Along with this trend many parts of the world have commenced their struggle against this system. Under this situation Sri Lanka also should get ready to face and win such challenges. As an independent country and as a country that has oil and gas Sri Lanka too faces numerous challenges. The country needs a systematic plan to face this challenge. We have to get ready to face this threat'.

"To face these challenges and to stand directly on our feet and be independent the country should prepare itself adequately," he said. The Left campaign of Sri Lanka had played a very important and major role in the country for its national struggle. The JVP provided its utmost to launch this campaign. However today the activities of the left have broken down, he said.

Until recently, the JVP was the main speaker of the Left political campaign. At present the JVP is going about its traditional path towards class struggle ignoring its national duty. "We have been trying to correct and guide them," he said. In 2005 there was no class struggle.

There was a sharp national struggle in the country. 'But the JVP decided to help Mahinda but decided against joining the government. We explained that it was an incorrect decision, he emphasized.

Leaders such as Fidel Castro who have provided leadership to the nation never harped on socialism but only highlighted patriotism. But the JVP has today become agents of imperialism. Is this not a huge betrayal?, he asked.

National Freedom Front General Secretary Priyanjith Vitharana, National Freedom Front Political Committee Member and Traditional Industries and Small Enterprises Deputy Minister Weera Kumara Dissanayake, National Freedom Front Former Organizer and Parliamentarian Jayantha Samaraweera, National Freedom Front Political Committee Member and Homagama Provincial Council Member Priyanga Kothalawala also participated in the event.
