Wayamba square project: excavation begins

The excavation programme of the Kurunegala ancient Kingdom commenced under the Wayamba square project at the ancient Ridee Viharaya premises under the patronage of Cultural and Arts Minister T B Ekanayake recently.

The ministry has drawn up a plan to introduce a new tourism map centering the Kurunegala District. Yapahuwa, Panduwasnuwara, Dambadeniya and Kurunegala ancient sites are included in the project.

The Central Cultural fund has taken measures to conserve the tomb of the first Chief Incumbant of the Malwatu Chapter, most Ven Tibbotuwawe Sri Siddhartha Buddharakkitha Thera recently.

The programme commenced as the first stage of an excavation project in the Kurunegala district.

The head Office of the Wayamba Square Project was also opened in Rideegama ancient temple pre-mises by the minister.
