New code for co-operative sector

The government on Thursday introduced a new code for the co-operative sector. Addressing a media briefing at the Foundation Institute in Colombo, Co-operatives and Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando said this code was formulated in consistence with labour rules and regulations to suit the sector's modern day requirements.

"The establishment code lays down the rules of procedure pertaining to all matters concerning persons employed by the government in the co-operative sector. It will provide solutions for many problems relating to term and conditions of recruitment, employment, salaries, allowances and disciplinary proceedings of co-operative sector employees," the minister said.
