South Africa, a kaleidoscope of myriad cultural and ethnic influences
has an extraordinary range of cuisine. This cuisine is aptly referred to
as the “rainbow” cuisine – as diverse as the culture and languages, the
food here is a blend of African, Asian and European cultures defining
the nation’s journey over the years.

Taj Samudra Colombo presents a South African Food Festival at the
Latitude restaurant featuring South African Chef Vivian Soloman from Taj
Cape Town. The Sous Chef at Taj Cape Town - Chef Solomon is a Celebrity
Chef in South Africa. He is celebrated for his culinary master pieces as
well as his oozing PR and bubbly personality.
A wide choice of favourites…Bobotie – a dish of minced meat with a
mushy top layer or Frikkadels, braised meat patties flavoured with
coriander and garlic. Venture out and try some Vetkoek, the traditional
Afrikaner pastry or linking to cooking customs closer to home, enjoy the
Bunny Chow or butter chicken curry in hollowed out bread loaves with
chutney, a dish that is believed to have originated from the Indian
community in South Africa. Plus indulge in a milktart - a dessert made
the world over, but not quite done to the same classical recipe known to
South Africans.
The South African Food festival is not a first at the Taj Samudra, as
last year as well the hotel hosted a South African Festival which was a
raging success. This year they invite all to walk into the Latitude for
an untamed and uncut surprise and experience South Africa like never
before – a safari through the Latitude with amazing food and wine! |
