Matara MC: high risk area

Twenty seven new dengue patients last month:

The Matara Municipal Council area has been declared a high risk area threatened with dengue by the Health Ministry, following the detection of 27 new dengue patients within the last month.

Officials said the detection of such a large number of patients can be considered as an epidemic situation.

Altogether 48 dengue patients have been reported from the municipal area during the last 10 months of this year.

The most affected areas with mosquito breeding places are Canal Bank area, Bentotagewatta, Hittetiya South and Central areas Izadeen Town, Hamugewatta, Sudarshi Mawatha, Kumaradasa Mawatha and Mahanamapura.

The PHIs are working round the clock to destroy mosquito breeding places through fumigation and other means.
