Construction arbitration seminar

The Institute for the Development of Commercial Law and Practice (ICLP), Colombo jointly with the Engineering Design Centre, Engineering Faculty, Peradeniya University will hold a seminar on 'Arbitration in construction industry' on November 12 from 9 am to 5 pm at Hotel Topaz, Kandy.

Commercial Arbitration has become an essential tool of dispute resolution in the construction industry for its salient features such as party autonomy, confidentiality, finality of the award, international enforceability of the award etc. The party autonomy in the selection of the technical experts as arbitrators has made this mechanism invaluable.

The programme will elaborate on the topics: Arbitration as an ADR mechanism in the construction industry; Conduct of arbitration proceedings in terms of Arbitration Act No. 11 of 1995 and arbitration and the role of judiciary. The panel of lecturers will include K. Kanag-Isvaran PC, Dr. Eddie de Zylva, (OIA), Engineer and Deputy Solicitor General Arjuna Obeysekera.
