‘EU should have denied Greece EU membership’ - Sarkozy

France: French President NicholasSarkozy said that the European Union (EU) should have denied Greece the EU membership because it “got in the eurozone with false figures,” the state-run BBC reported on Thursday.

“If Greece had defaulted, there would have been a domino effect carrying everyone away,” Sarkozy said about the bailouts Athens has already received. This comes as Greek Foreign Minister Stavros Lambrinidis has said, “Greece is in the middle of the storm, but it is not the source of the problems of European debt and deficits.”
