Halloween celebrations have just begun
Official All Hallow’s Eve will be held tonight:
US: Love-making skeletons, a parade in Greenwich Village, haunted
houses and parties of all sorts await New Yorkers celebrating Halloween
starting this weekend.
Though the official All Hallow’s Eve will be held Monday night, the
last day of October, New Yorkers have already joined other Americans in
beginning celebrations with traditional pumpkin, cobweb and giant
skeleton decorations strewn across houses and buildings.
On Fifth Avenue, French sculptor Jean-Marc Laroche has decked the
windows of the Museum of Sex with his “Lovers from the Hereafter”
fantasy of eternal life, complete with skeletons embracing one another
in intertwining Kama Sutra positions.
“They are themselves quite joyful and they thumb their noses at death
and present the afterlife as a roll in the hay,” Laroche said in a
statement about the highly realistic human-sized sculptures made of
varnished resin and jointed with an invisible steel framework. New York
also offers up a serving of haunted houses, like the Bartow-Pell Mansion
in the Bronx, where paranormal investigator Dan Sturges will lead a
candlelight walk to a cemetery Saturday to discuss investigations of
ghostly happenings at the mansion.
This year’s theme is “the i of the beholder,” complete with giant
projected pictures of eyeballs.
