Facelift for road stretch from A'pura to Trinco

The stretch of A12 road from Anuradhapura to Trincomalee, damaged due to terrorist attacks, will be reconstructed and upgraded to facilitate the smooth flow of traffic.

The reconstruction work of this road was inaugurated under the patronage of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa in Horowpathana, Anuradhapura. Work will be completed in a short period.

The 97.2 km road will be reconstructed at a cost of Rs 12.8 billion in line with the Deyata Kirula exhibition to be conducted in Oyamaduwa, Anuradhapura next year.

The reconstruction of the first section of the A12 road from Puttalam to Anuradhapura has been completed under the first phase.

Under the second phase, the stretch from Anuradhapura to Trincomalee will be reconstructed, Ports and Highways Deputy Minister Nirmala Kothlawala said.

This is the major road connecting North Western, North Central and the Eastern provinces.
