Lad pulled from Turkey earthquake dies of internal bleeding

TURKEY: The boy of 13 who captured hearts around the world when he was pictured being pulled from an earthquake-hit building has died of his injuries. Tragic Yunus Geray was taken to hospital but died from internal bleeding on Monday night.

He had been in a first-floor internet cafe that was destroyed by the powerful earthquake. His –devastated father, Yusuf, said his son suffered –fractures to his legs, arms and neck when rubble fell on top of him.

Yunus was the sole survivor in the building, where 10 other people died.

He had to wait for hours with a dead man’s hand draped around his shoulder before rescuers managed to reach him.

When search and rescue crews discovered the frightened -teenager and told him that it was 10pm, he replied: “Oh no, it is very late. Please don’t tell my father.”

The remainder of Yunus’s family, including nine children, survived the terrible disaster, as did the family home in Ecris - the city that was hardest hit by the -enormous earthquake.
