Nirmala and Erandi win Tibhar table tennis championship

B N B Jaysingha of Mas Intimates and Erandi Warusavithana of Dharmasoka College, Ambalangoda won the 7th Tibhar Open Ranking Championships held at S Thomas College Indoor Stadium, Mt Lavinia on last weekend organized by Tibhar Sports Club, and nearly 700 paddlers from various part of the island took part in this tournament.

In the finals B N B Jayasingha beat current National Champion and Sri Lanka No 1 Rohan Sirisena in seven 7 sets (11/6, 11/8, 9/11, 11/9, 7/11, 8/11, 11/8).

In the women’s singles event Erandi Warusavithana of Dharmasoka College Ambalngoda beat Current National Champion and Sri Lanka No 1 Ishara Madurangi of Sri Lanka Air Force by 4/3.

In the last set Ishara led 9-3 and Erandi fought back brilliantly and got all the eight points and beat experienced Ishara to win the women’s singles title (7/11, 11/5, 14/12, 5/11, 14/12, 8/11, 11/9).

Sachinthana Moonamale (Maliyadeva) and Devmini Weerasena (Musaeus) clinched the Intermediate men’s and women’s title and Sachinthana Moonamale (Maliyadeva) and Sathya Udayangi of Dharmasoka College Ambalangoda won the Most Outstanding titles.

Under 8 girls: 1. Kavishka Kavindi (Prajapthi BMV), 2. Bimandi Sandinsa (Kegalu Lion).

Under 10 girls: 1. Nethmi Ayeshika (Prajapathi), 2. Kevinya Hansani (Dharmaloka/Kelaniya).

Under 12 girls: 1. Ochini Disanayaka (Mahamaya), 2. Janani Pushpakumara (Mahamaya).

Under 15 girls: 1. Deeksha Rodrigo (Visakha), 2. Hasini Gunasekara (Visakha).

Under 18 girls: 1. Yahani Mendis (Girls High School/Mt Lavinia),2. Neranjali Deshika (Dewananda).

Novices Womens: 1. Sathya Udayangani (Dharmasoka), 2. Hasini Sandeepani (Dharmasoka).

Intermediate Women’s: 1. Dewmini Weerasena (Musaeus), 2. Sathya Udayangani (Dharmasoka).

Open Women’s: 1. Erandi Warusavithana (Dharmasoka), 2. Ishara Madurangi (Air Force).

Under 8 boys: 1. Bavendra Srimal (Vidyartha), 2. Dinura Ginige (Dharmasoka).

Under 10 boys: 1. Abdulla Manzeel (Trinity), 2. Isuru Methmal (Kegalu V).

Under 12 boys: 1. Ruwanaka Srinath (Dharmasoka), 2. Imantha Nadiranga (Dharmasoka).

Under 15 boys: 1. Savindu Jayasekara (Vidyartha), 2. Ruwanaka Srinath (Dharmasoka).

Under 18 boys: 1. Hasindu Lakshan (C W W Kannangara), 2. Pathum Dilshan (Devananda).

Novices Men’s: 1. Trishan Nimesh (Dharmasoka), 2. Umesh Neluminda (Devananda).

Intermediate Men’s: 1. Sachinthana Moonamale (Maliyadeva), 2. Pathum Dilshan (Devananda).

Open Men’s: 1. B N B Jayasingha (Mas Intimates), 2. Rohan Sirisena (Air Force).
