Inter Club cricket tournament 2011 at Chavakachcheri that was
organized by the Civil Affairs Office of the 523 Brigade at Nunavil in
the Nothern Province with participation 36 teams ended on Sunday.

Affairs Office of the 523 Brigade at Nunavil in the Northern
Province with participation 36 teams. |
Twenty four Sports Clubs in Vadamarachchi and Thenmarachchi areas
participated in Inter Club Cricket Tournament 2011 while another twelve
Army teams took part under the 52 Division. The tournament started on
September 5 and all matches were played at the same ground at
Chavakachcheri.
An officer for the Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna stated that
the Chavakachcheri Sivam Sports Club in Chavakachcheri won the trophy
while the 52 Division team won the Championship of the Army teams while
the team of 10th Battalion Gemunu Watch became the runners-up. Out of
the 24 teams Chavakachcheri Sivam SC and Madduvil Valarmathy SC
qualified for the finals. Kopinath of the Kannan SC was adjudged the man
of the series. S. Theepan of the Sivan SC and K. Kirishan of the same SC
respectively won the awards for the best bowler and the best batsman.
Out of the Army players, Corporal N.V. Prasanna of 10 GW and Lance
Corporal W.A.D.C. Roshan of the 52 Division team won the awards for best
bowler and the best batsman.
Jaffna Security Forces Headquarters Commander Major General Mahinda
Hathurusinghe graced the final which was organized to promote sports in
Jaffna and to strengthen relationship between the Army and civilians in
the area.
All Sports Clubs that took part in the tournament were given a pack
of sportsware and special gifts were awarded to students of Madduvil
School Band who made the function colorful with their performances.
Rev. Fr. A.K. Selvanayagam of South Indian Church at Chavakachcheri
delivered the vote of thanks.
