A Police party was deployed to raid the house in Urumale based on information that large-scale heroin trade was conducted in that area.

The Police first arrested the suspect and seized the heroin in her possession. They then set up instant road blocks so that the Pesale Police arrested the other three suspects who left the house. It is believed that they were small-scale drug traders.

The three-wheeler too was seized.

The Police said there was information that heroin was smuggled into the country by sea off Thalaimannar by trawlers and then brought ashore by small boats. The Police had been alerted about the operation for a long period before the successful raid.

The Police also said the productions should be heroin of good quality and should be worth more than Rs 10 million.

The Police also said however the quality would be determined by the Government Analysts Department. The Police and the STF were continuously arresting suspects in Colombo and various parts of the country.

The four suspects, heroin and the three-wheeler were to be produced before the Thalaimannar Magistrate.

The raid was conducted by a group from the Thalaimannar Police led by HQI IP A L M Jamil under the directions of SP Laksiri Wijesiri and DIG Maxi Proctor. Police are conducting further investigations.
