Divi Neguma second phase begins today

The second phase of the Divi Neguma programme targeting 1.5 million families will commence islandwide today at the auspicious time of 9.59 a.m.

The main ceremony will be held at Obawatte in the Biyagama Divisional Secretariat Division today under the patronage of Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa. Around 150 families in every Grama Niladhari Division have been provided a packet containing seeds of five vegetable varieties to be grown in their home garden today at the auspicious time of 9.59 a.m.

This programme will be implemented in every GN division under the supervision of Grama Seva Niladharis, Samurdhi animators and agriculture officers.

Over 1.3 economic units were established under the first phase of the Divi Neguma programme which was launched in March last year with special emphasis on the agriculture sector.

Divi Neguma phase I also focused on boosting backyard poultry industry and inland fisheries and the handicraft sectors too.
