Moves to launch Mother Vessel System
All measures are in place to launch the Mother Vessel System, said
Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Development Minister Dr. Rajitha
Senaratne.
According to the minister, construction of two Mother Vessels is
under way in China. The ministry will import another five Mother Vessels
from several countries within the next two years.
Fishermen had to face numerous hardships in the past three decades.
They were also affected by the tsunami. The government has taken all
measures to uplift the livelihood of the fisheries community through the
Mahinda Chintana Future Vision programme, he said.
"We hope to introduce modern technology to the fisheries industry
with the aim of increasing fish production. Under this, the ministry
will introduce satellite technology, satellite phones and Vessel
Monitoring System (VMS). These will help make a good catch and also help
save time and energy," the minister said.
