Govt has done much for agri uplift - PM

Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne participates in the Vap Magul ceremony held in Doluwa, Gampola yesterday

No past government has strived so hard as the present government to uplift the country’s agriculture sector. The government’s untiring efforts have brought a wide awakening in the agriculture sector with an increase in youths’ contribution towards it, said Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne.

The Prime Minister was addressing a Vap Magul ceremony organized by the Central Provincial Agriculture Department in Doluwa, Gampola, yesterday. The ceremony was held at the Ganegoda paddy field in Doluwa, Gampola yesterday.

“This government assists and guides the agriculture field development in different ways. The annual rice production also increased compared with the previous years. Sri Lanka will soon get the opportunity to export rice as well,” the Prime Minister said.

The Prime Minister said positive attitudes have been created among all communities as a result of the President’s Mahinda Chinthana policies.
