The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), has donated a new
Information Technology network to the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources
Development Ministry. The ministry is now equipped with an improved IT
system.
The FAO aims to upgrade Fisheries Ministry’s information technology
(IT) infrastructure, under this project. It is granting two high-end
servers, an uninterrupted power supply unit (UPS), a world class
software solution, user training and technical support for the duration
of one year.
The new IT system was handed over to the Fisheries and Aquatic
Resources Development Minister Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, by FAO Sri Lankan
and Maldives Representative Patrick T. Evans recently, to commemorate
World Food Day which fell on October 16.
While thanking FAO for its continued support, the minister
highlighted the importance of accurate, up-to-date information in
today’s world.
“The rapidly developing information technology has enabled us to have
speedy access to information in a very user friendly manner. The
Fisheries Ministry is currently in a ‘Development Mode’ and needs
improved capability to process and disseminate information quickly.
