Man hacked to death

A 31 year old person, Wilegoda Gamage Rangana Pushpakumara of Uswatte Wellampitiya has been hacked to death at Kirillawala, Kadawatha on Thursday evening.

A suspect arrested in this connection is receiving treatment at the Ragama hospital under police guard. Kadawatha police investigating the death said an alleged love affair between the victim and the suspect's wife had led to the alleged murder.

Pedestrian receives deadly knock

A pedestrian knocked down by a lorry at Mahagollewa on the Vavuniya-Anuradhapura road succumbed to his injuries on admission to the Rambewa hospital on Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Shanmugan Kankeshan, 66, of Jaffna. His body is lying at the hospital morgue awaiting the autopsy. The lorry driver is in police custody.

Motorcyclist dies in mishap

A motorcyclist succumbed to his injuries at the Colombo National Hospital when the cycle he was riding crashed on to the rear of a lorry plying on the Karawanelle-Kegalle road to the same direction at Muhudugamuwa on Thursday morning.

The deceased was identified as Weerasekara Mudiyanselage Asoka Tillakaratne, 38, of Arawatta Mahiyangana. Ruwanwelle police are investigating.

Septuagenarian trapped in accident

A pedestrian knocked down by a private bus near the Kekirawa bus stand succumbed to his injuries on admission to the Kekirawa hospital on Thursday afternoon. The deceased was identified as Thewahamige Kapuruhamy Seneviratne, 71, of Maha Elagamuwa.

The alleged bus driver taken into police custody was due to be produced in court yesterday. Kebethigollewa police are investigating.

Road fiend kills one

A pedal cyclist died on the spot after being knocked down by a tipper at Enakade on the Kebithigollewa-Medawachchiya road on Thursday evening. The deceased was identified as Tikiralage Gunasekara, 65, of Galegama.

The driver of the tipper taken into police custody has due to be produced in court yesterday. Kebithigollewa police are investigating.
